Constantin replaced two bathrooms for me to a very high standard and worked with me on ideas etc. very pleased with the finished product.Nigel Sweeney2023-08-28
Constantin and his team recently did a complete renovation of our bathroom. They did an excellent job. We got many quotations and consultations, but Constantine stood out. We required the toilet to be relocated and Constantin was the only one who said he could do it. He gave us excellent suggestions and took our needs and wishes on board. The price was competitive and we were very satisfied with the tiling, fitting and plumbing and electrical works. This was not an easy job, especially the plumbing part. The plumber Cris gave us great suggestions on what to replace our old water tank with. The works ran smoothly. It took 6 days, with the team working very hard to meet the schedule they said they would do it in. We are very happy with the new bathroom. This review is about two months after the renovation. Everything is working well. I would highly recommend Constantin and his team for bathroom renovating and installation.Darragh Mulligan2023-08-10

A wet room is a bathroom or shower area that is designed without traditional shower enclosures or trays, allowing the entire space to act as a shower area. Wet rooms provide a modern and stylish design solution for bathrooms, offering easy maintenance, efficient use of space, and a spacious and open feel. They are increasingly popular due to their versatility and contemporary aesthetic. Consider hiring a professional wet room builder to ensure proper installation and maximize the benefits of this functional and trendy bathroom design.
A wet room is a contemporary bathroom design solution that offers a spacious and open feel by eliminating the need for shower enclosures or trays. In a wet room, the entire bathroom acts as the shower area, creating a seamless and stylish look. With its minimalist aesthetic and functional design, wet rooms have gained popularity as a modern alternative to traditional bathrooms.
With no barriers or boundaries, wet rooms provide easy accessibility for individuals with physical impairments, making them an inclusive design choice. Additionally, wet rooms are known for their versatility, as they can be adapted to suit different bathroom sizes and layouts. Whether it’s a compact ensuite or a large master bathroom, the concept of a wet room can be tailored to accommodate various spaces.
Now that we have defined what a wet room is, let’s explore the different types of wet rooms that can be incorporated into your bathroom design.
Wet rooms come in various styles and designs, ensuring there’s an option to suit every taste and preference. Here are some popular types of wet rooms:
Minimalist Wet Room: This type of wet room focuses on simplicity and clean lines. It often features minimalistic fixtures and fittings, with neutral tones and sleek finishes for a contemporary look.
Luxurious Spa Wet Room: For those looking to create a spa-like experience at home, this type of wet room incorporates luxurious elements such as rainfall showerheads, built-in seating areas, steam generators, and even ambient lighting for ultimate relaxation.
Natural-inspired Wet Room: Embracing nature-inspired materials like stone tiles or wood accents, this type of wet room brings an organic touch to the space. Combined with greenery and natural light, it creates a calming oasis within your bathroom.
Industrial Chic Wet Room: Taking cues from industrial aesthetics, this type of wet room incorporates features like exposed brick walls, metal fixtures, and bold statement pieces. It creates a unique and edgy look that adds character to your bathroom.
Family-friendly Wet Room: Designed with practicality in mind, this type of wet room caters to families with young children or elderly individuals by ensuring ease of movement and safety. It may include features like non-slip flooring, grab bars, and adjustable showerheads.
These are just a few examples of the different types of wet rooms available. The choice ultimately depends on your personal style, budget, and the overall aesthetic you wish to achieve in your bathroom.
Wet rooms have gained popularity in recent years as a modern and stylish bathroom design solution. These innovative spaces offer several advantages that make them stand out from traditional bathrooms.
First and foremost, one of the main advantages of a wet room is the sense of spaciousness it provides. Without the need for shower enclosures or trays, the entire bathroom becomes part of the shower area, creating an open and airy atmosphere. This can be particularly beneficial for smaller bathrooms, as it gives the illusion of a larger space.
Another advantage is the ease of cleaning and maintenance. Since there are no shower enclosures or trays to clean, wet rooms eliminate these areas where mould and mildew tend to accumulate. With proper waterproofing and adequate ventilation, wet rooms can be easier to clean and reduce the chances of moisture-related issues.
Additionally, wet rooms offer versatility in design. They provide the freedom to choose various materials and finishes, allowing for endless design possibilities. Whether you prefer a minimalist aesthetic or a more luxurious look, wet rooms can accommodate your style preferences.
One important aspect that sets wet rooms apart is their accessibility features, making them suitable for individuals with mobility challenges as well as those looking for long-term solutions.
Wet rooms are known for their versatility and accessibility, making them an excellent choice for people with different needs and preferences.
For individuals with physical impairments or disabilities, wet rooms offer easy access without any barriers or obstructions. The absence of shower trays or steps allows for seamless movement within the bathroom, providing a safer bathing experience.
Moreover, wet rooms can be designed to include additional accessibility features such as grab bars, non-slip flooring, seated areas, and adjustable showerheads. These modifications cater to specific needs while maintaining a stylish and contemporary appearance.
It’s worth noting that wet rooms are not just limited to accessibility concerns. They can also be chosen for their aesthetic appeal and longevity. The modern and minimalist design of wet rooms adds a touch of elegance to any bathroom, enhancing the overall ambiance of the space.
While wet rooms offer numerous advantages, it is important to consider potential concerns and seek advice from experts before proceeding with the construction process.
Constructing a wet room requires careful planning and consideration of various factors. The first step is to evaluate the available space and determine how it can be utilised effectively for a wet room design. It is crucial to ensure proper waterproofing measures are in place to prevent water leakage and damage to the structure. This may involve installing a tanking system, which includes waterproof membranes on walls and floors. In addition, proper drainage is essential to ensure efficient water flow and prevent pooling or stagnant water. Designing a wet room also involves selecting suitable fixtures and fittings that are specifically designed for wet environments, such as non-slip tiles and corrosion-resistant materials.
Creating a successful wet room requires collaboration with experienced professionals who specialise in wet room installations. They possess the expertise to assess structural integrity, recommend appropriate materials, and address any potential issues that may arise during construction. Seeking advice from those with prior experience in wet room installations can help navigate the complexities involved in creating a functional and stylish wet room bathroom.
When designing and installing a wet room, there are several key tips to consider ensuring optimal functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Firstly, it’s important to choose the right type of flooring for your wet room. Non-slip tiles or vinyl flooring with a textured surface are commonly used to enhance safety and prevent accidents caused by slippery surfaces.
Secondly, proper ventilation is crucial in maintaining a dry and moisture-free environment within the wet room. Installing an extractor fan or ventilation system helps to control humidity levels and prevent the growth of mould or mildew.
Furthermore, the layout of fixtures should be carefully planned to optimise space utilisation. Consider positioning the shower area away from other fixtures to minimise splashing onto nearby surfaces.
Lastly, investing in high-quality waterproofing materials is essential for long-term durability. Opt for reputable brands that provide reliable waterproofing solutions, ensuring protection against potential water damage.
Design and installation tips serve as a guide to creating functional and visually appealing wet rooms, but the expertise of professionals should not be undermined. Consulting with experienced contractors and designers who specialise in wet room installations can offer valuable insights tailored to your specific needs and preferences.
When it comes to designing wet rooms, careful consideration must be given to the selection of materials. The right materials can enhance the functionality, durability, and overall aesthetic appeal of the space. One key aspect to keep in mind is that wet rooms are inherently exposed to a high level of moisture and humidity. Therefore, it is crucial to choose materials that are resistant to water damage and have low water absorption capabilities.
One important factor to consider is the type of tiles used for the walls and floors of wet rooms. Granite tiles are a practical and luxurious option, suitable for both floors and countertops. Their durability makes them ideal for heavy usage areas while adding an element of sophistication. Marble or stone-effect tiles provide a timeless beauty with their natural patterns and textures, adding elegance to any wet room design. Bohemian tiles offer a vintage appearance with their intricate designs, perfect for creating stunning feature walls.
Another popular choice is kit kat tiles, which are mosaic tiles that add depth and texture without overpowering other patterns in the space. Terrazzo tiles present endless possibilities in terms of colour and texture options, providing versatility in wet room design. Ceramic or porcelain tiles are versatile options that never go out of fashion, offering ease of maintenance and cleaning. Limestone tiles create a natural look, suitable for floors and countertops but require resealing every few years to maintain their integrity. Lastly, terracotta tiles provide a natural colour and texture but should only be used in dry areas due to their water absorption properties.
For easy reference, here’s a list summarising the prime choices for shower and flooring materials in wet rooms:
Material | Features |
---|---|
Granite Tiles | Practical, luxurious, suitable for floors/countertops |
Marble/Stone-Effect Tiles | Timeless beauty, natural patterns/textures |
Bohemian Tiles | Vintage appearance, intricate designs |
Kit Kat Tiles | Mosaic tiles adding texture without overpowering |
Terrazzo Tiles | Endless colour and texture options |
Ceramic/Porcelain Tiles | Versatile, low maintenance |
Limestone Tiles | Natural look, suitable for floors/countertops |
Terracotta Tiles | Natural colour and texture, only for dry areas |
Now that we have an understanding of the importance of material selection in wet rooms let’s explore the prime choices for shower and flooring materials in more detail.
When it comes to the shower area, selecting the right materials is crucial to ensure both functionality and style. Porcelain-backed marble tiles offer the elegance of porcelain with the durability of marble – making them a great choice for small bathroom designs where space is limited. Wood-look porcelain tiles provide a natural wood appearance at an affordable price, offering versatility that can be used not only in wet rooms but also in living rooms or any other room where a warm aesthetic is desired.
Modern subway tiles are a popular choice for contemporary designs, bringing a sleek and clean aesthetic to wet room spaces. Terrazzo tiles have been trending for centuries due to their durability and timeless appeal, making them a practical choice for bathroom floors. Matte ceramic tiles in classic white are versatile and can fit various interior design themes effortlessly. For those who prefer a more modern look, matte porcelain tiles can create a fresh and contemporary feel. Vinyl planks are another option that offers the illusion of wood flooring without the high cost or maintenance associated with real wood. Marble mosaics and marble waterjets, especially in black and white combinations, are popular choices for creating exceptional designs and contrasting patterns in wet rooms. Lastly, dark tiles, particularly dark marble tiles, add sophistication and create contrast in bathroom wall designs.
